Ultrapure water as an aid for coronavirus testing

The current pandemic COVID-19 has affected not only the health of people around the globe but also the economy. As many frontliners face the virus every day, increasing medical professionals find ways to do mass testing as well as they all recognise the need to act and develop a vaccine. We at NEPTEC are ready to support our hardworking professionals from the medical sector by sharing our skills and expertise in any way that we can, to ensure the production of ultrapure water in your laboratory.

Ultrapure water can be considered to be one of the critical utilities in almost every sector. Having biopharmaceutical companies as an example, without testing the water’s purity, laboratory testing may be susceptible to contamination thus any results may not prove to be accurate.

How ultrapure water is used in the context of coronavirus testing?

To detect coronavirus from the samples of Patients Under Investigation (PUI), PCR (Polymerase Chain reaction) is used in diagnostic laboratories. Ultrapure water is necessary to carry out this technique since the use of water free from nucleases, micro-organisms, organic compounds and trace elements for all reagents and buffers is needed. The water quality which is required is Ultrapure grade (Type I) water – with 18.2 MΩ cm resistivity, < 20 ppb total organic carbon (TOC).

NEPTEC lab water systems use technologies such as UV photo-oxidation, high capacity purification cartridges and an ultrafilter for reliable delivery of ultrapure water for PCR work. In addition, real-time resistivity, TOC monitoring and validation of the unit ensure verifiable removal of inorganic and organic contaminants.

During this challenging time, we are sincerely open for any collaboration with any medical institution especially with diagnostic laboratories to provide ultrapure water purification systems. Please contact us at info@neptec.de or call us at +49 6436 94891-00 so our NEPTEC team can immediately act and contribute to fighting this pandemic.
